Aloisi looking non-stop for Roar recruits
May 9, 2017 - 3:08 AM Brisbane Roar coach John Aloisi has been looking non-stop for recruits with young gun Brandon Borrello set to leave the A-League club next season for Europe.Borrello, 21, is understood to have signed for German second division club Kaiserslautern, making Wednesday night's AFC Champions League dead rubber against Ulsan Hyundai his final match for the Roar.
Kaiserslautern has triggered Borrello's buyout clause, allowing him to make the shift despite being under contract for one more season.
It further decimates Brisbane's attacking stocks with Jamie Maclaren and Thomas Broich also moving elsewhere, meaning Aloisi will field an entirely different front three next season.
Aloisi would not confirm Borrello's transfer on Tuesday but said there had been a lot of interest shown in the Roar's younger players.
"That means we're doing something right at this football club," he said.
"If you can help someone progress as a player and create interest in overseas clubs, we're on the right path.
"Still in players' minds is to go and play at the highest level in Europe.
"Have we found a replacement for these players? Not yet, but I'm sure that we will. We've been looking non-stop.
"It's about making sure it's the right fit for the team. We won't rush into anything."
Originally from Adelaide, Borrello made 75 A-League appearances for the Roar across four seasons, scoring 13 goals.
Aloisi admitted it was also likely to be Maclaren's final match for the Roar, with the joint A-League golden boot winner poised to make a decision on his future in the next week or so.
"I think he'll go overseas, which we understand," he said.
While Maclaren and Borrello are both in line to start against Ulsan, club legend Broich will not be involved at all.
The dual Johnny Warren medallist ruled himself out of the clash due to concerns over his ankle, even though the Roar's medical staff had reportedly cleared him to play.
"He just didn't feel right this week. It's a pity but that's part of football," Aloisi said.
Roar skipper Matt McKay said the team was not only motivated to send their departing players out on a high note but to also regain some respect after a 6-0 capitulation to Ulsan in South Korea earlier this year.
"This is the start of next season, for me," McKay said.
