Man City sign goalkeeper Ederson for $60M

Jun 1, 2017 - 9:45 AM Manchester City have signed Ederson Moraes from Benfica for 40 million euros ($60.6 million), making the Brazilian the second most expensive goalkeeper of all time.

The fee has only been eclipsed by the 53 million euros ($A80.3 million) that Juventus paid Parma for Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon in 2001.

While City have yet to confirm the agreement, Benfica said that half of the fee for Ederson will go to third parties, including the 23-year-old keeper's former team, Rio Ave.

"In accordance with and for the purpose of Article 248 of the Securities Code, Benfica have reached an agreement with Manchester City Football club Limited for the transfer of the athlete Ederson Santana de Moraes for a fee of EUR40,000,000 (forty million euros) if there is a commitment to deliver 50% of the added value obtained in this transfer to third parties," Benfica confirmed in a message to the Portuguese stock exchange.

Ederson's signing on a five-year deal was confirmed after he passed a medical, with Pep Guardiola moving swiftly to revamp his City squad after finishing third in the Premier League.

Ederson, who joined Benfica in 2015 from Rio Ave in his homeland, will become City's second signing of the off-season after a deal for Monaco's midfielder Bernardo Silva was announced earlier this week.
