Goalkeeper Kennedy completes Mariners move
Jun 22, 2017 - 6:49 AM Former Newcastle A-League goalkeeper Ben Kennedy has completed his move south to Central Coast after getting through his medical with the Mariners. The 30-year-old agreed to terms with the Mariners in March, but held off on signing his one-year deal as he continued recovery from his season-ending achilles injury suffered days before the start of last campaign.
"Coming back from injury, it is great to get the body moving again and things feel really good," said Kennedy, who has been back running and jumping for a month.
"It is a big move from Newcastle after spending 12 years up there but I'm really excited to be here."
The experienced Kennedy is likely to step in as coach Paul Okon's favoured option after the departure of former No.1 Paul Izzo to Adelaide and the release of Ivan Necevski.
Okon has signalled his intent to sign a third stopper, with youth product Adam Pearce handed his first professional contract in April.
