Import striker Kokko exits A-League's Jets
Jul 10, 2017 - 10:13 PM Aleksandr Kokko's difficult time in the A-League is over after the Newcastle Jets released him halfway through a two-year deal. The Finnish striker will join Hong Kong Premier League side Eastern Sports Club, leaving Newcastle on mutual terms.
Kokko, 30, signed with the Jets last August after starring in Finland's top flight where he was twice leading goalscorer.
But his time in the A-League was less fruitful, starting seven of his 13 games for just one goal as he struggled with injury and form issues.
The Jets have indicated their intention to recruit another foreign player as a replacement.
Kokko joins Andrew Hoole, Iain Fyfe and Morten Nordstrand as among those to leave the club after their wooden spoon in 2016-17.
But they have recruited new coach Ernie Merrick and players Nikolai Topor-Stanley, Daniel Georgievski, Roy O'Donovan and Dimi Petratos for the new season.
