Spurs youth 'keeper Glover joins Mariners
Jul 26, 2017 - 3:24 AM Central Coast have signed teenage Australian goalkeeper Tom Glover from Tottenham on a one-year loan deal. The 19-year-old will continue his development in the A-League after spending 2016-17 in the Premier League 2 -- an U-23 competition -- playing 11 times.
The Young Socceroos 'keeper started 16 games for the Spurs under-18s side the season previous.
Glover is a strong chance to be first-choice for the Mariners after Paul Izzo's departure to join Adelaide.
He will link up with Mariners coach Paul Okon, who he played under at Australian youth teams.
"It's important to get some first-team experience and games under my belt," Glover said.
"I think to go on loan now is the next step for me. Paolo is willing to give me that opportunity and I want to take that chance with both hands.
"His style of play is the way I like to play - playing out from the back, using my feet."
Glover said learning from Tottenham No.1 Hugo Lloris had fast-tracked his improvement.
He will compete against Ben Kennedy and Adam Pearce for the starting spot at the Mariners.
