Mariners add another Spaniard to ranks

Jul 27, 2017 - 11:16 PM Central Coast have continued the A-League's recent fascination with Spanish players with the signing of Asdrubal for the upcoming season.

The 26-year-old is their third import and comes to the club after stints last season with La Liga side Las Palmas and Thai outfit Port FC.

The versatile attacker, who will be used by the Mariners predominantly as a striker, has spent most of his career in Spain's second division.

He is the 10th player brought to Gosford by coach Paul Okon this off-season and becomes the seventh Spaniard on the books at an A-Legue club.

Asdrubal is already familiar with Central Coast's other Spaniard, defender Alan Baro, having played against him previously.

"We've waited patiently to fill this position, we've looked at a lot of strikers and we wanted to make sure we took our time to find the right '9' to complement the way we play and we are sure that we've done that," Okon said.

"His work ethic is very good, everyone that we spoke to when we were doing our research all spoke very highly of him as a top professional."

Asdrubal's signing takes Central Coast's A-League squad to 21 players, with Okon declaring he is unlikely to bring in any further recruits for the time being.
