Jets hand Phoenix another pre-season loss

Sep 16, 2017 - 8:22 AM Wellington Phoenix's pre-season tour of New South Wales has ended with a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle Jets in Edgeworth on Saturday.

Saturday's fixture was an open affair, with both sides squandering chances, as they gear up for the A-League kick-off in three weeks.

The Jets opened the scoring midway through the first half through Irishman Roy O'Donovan before the Phoenix responded with a recently-signed forward of their own.

Serbian front man Andrija Kaludjerovic scored his first goal for the club when he rose to meet an Adam Parkhouse cross in the 64th minute.

The hosts restored their advantage when second-half substitute Joe Champness struck with a sweetly-timed volley on 80 minutes.

Socceroos forward Dario Vidosic made his Phoenix debut with a 15-minute cameo, immediately forging a promising relationship up front with captain for the day Roy Krishna.

Wellington's tour has resulted in three losses after they went down 2-1 to National Premier Leagues NSW side Blacktown City in Sydney and 1-0 to Cental Coast Mariners on Tuesday.
