Holman return to cure Roar's A-League ills
Oct 10, 2017 - 12:41 AM Brett Holman's return from injury will help his A-League teammates get back to the "Brisbane Roar way" of playing, coach John Aloisi says.Holman missed the Roar's 2-0 loss away to Melbourne City due to a calf injury but has been cleared to face Adelaide United at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.
It's perfect timing after a limp performance from Brisbane, who were arguably the most disappointing side across the A-League's opening round.
Aloisi criticised his players for not being "brave" enough in attack after the defeat to City but tipped former Socceroo Holman's influence would help.
"It was mainly in the final third, really, when instead of going forward, we're going backwards," Aloisi told reporters on Tuesday.
"That's not the way Brisbane Roar play, that's not the way we want to play.
"It's trying to do the right things, and that's being positive and trying to go forward and trying to create as many chances as possible.
"That's the only disappointing thing for us from last week and this week, at home, I'm sure it will be completely different."
The 33-year-old is a vital figure in the Roar's remodelled forward set-up this season following the departure of creative fulcrum Thomas Broich.
"Everyone knows Brett is a quality player. Not only is he experienced but his final pass (is effective), he can score goals, he can shoot from outside the box, he works hard," Aloisi said.
Holman's presence is even more important in light of highly-credentialed French recruit Eric Bautheac's ongoing visa issues.
Bautheac still hasn't met his new teammates despite being signed a month ago and cannot enter the country until the Department of Immigration and Border Protection processes his paperwork, much to Aloisi's frustration.
"All I hear is that it's at the top of the pile. I don't know how big the pile was," Aloisi said.
Meanwhile, Aloisi said neither Corey Gameiro or Thomas Kristensen would be available for selection against Adelaide.
Gameiro is being handled with extreme care by the Roar after recovering from his second knee reconstruction but is nearing full fitness.
Kristensen, however, is still several weeks away from overcoming his hamstring injury.
Aloisi said the Danish midfielder would be "touch and go" for Brisbane's round four trip against Wellington but more likely to return the following weekend against the Central Coast Mariners.
