Muscat not worried by slow A-League start
Oct 14, 2017 - 4:30 PM There's no panic at A-League heavyweights Melbourne Victory despite a second-up loss that leaves Kevin Muscat's outfit alongside Brisbane at the bottom of the table.Victory lost their first Melbourne derby in a year on Saturday night, falling victim to a second-half Bruce Kamau goal in a 2-1 loss to rivals Melbourne City.
It was a tight defeat - and one Muscat felt was unlucky - but a defeat all the same.
He placed it firmly in the bracket of their opening weekend loss to Sydney FC at the same venue.
"It's like last week ... if you look at everything else apart from goals ... you would have thought it was a different outcome," he said.
"Possession. Balls in their box.
"We should've got something tonight. And we should have got something last week."
Last year's grand finalists must now head to unbeaten Adelaide United next week in a bid to avoid losing their opening three matches for the first time.
Early points are especially crucial for Victory given they will contend with an Asian Champions League campaign in the back half of the campaign.
"That's the idea. You want start well," Muscat said.
"We're going to have to deal with that."
Victory will sweat on a hip flexor issue to James Donachie, but Muscat could see some positives.
Strong link-up play between Kosta Barbarouses and Jason Geria, a first goal to Leroy George and Mark Milligan stepping into the midfield link-man role without missing a beat - even if he needed a second-half substitution - among them.
"We're capable of so much more," Muscat concluded.
