Dangerous Mariners eye A-League win

Oct 20, 2017 - 6:43 AM Central Coast coach Paul Okon believes his dangerous side fears no one, as they seek their first A-League win of the season on Sunday.

While the Mariners have picked up just one point from their first two games, Okon is encouraged by the early efforts of his new-look side heading into Sunday's away clash with Perth Glory.

There were glimpses in the 5-1 first-round loss to Newcastle and several more in a 2-2 away draw to the highly-rated Western Sydney Wanderers last week.

"I think we've still got a lot of improvement, having 11 new players in the squad will take a little bit of time," Okon said.

"But I think last Saturday's performance, if that's a taste of what we're capable of, and we still think we can improve, then exciting times ahead.

"Once we believe that we're at, or getting close to where we think we should be, then we expect to be winning more games."

Okon wants to see more play like midfielder Daniel De Silva's second-half effort against the Wanderers, which he rated as an early contender for goal of the season.

"We know that's the sort of stuff we can dish up, the question is can we do it consistently?" Okon said.

"We don't fear anyone, we know it's a tough challenge.

"Perth are traditionally very strong at home, but we go there with confidence, we're playing good football.

"We're dangerous, we're scoring goals and for us it's a case of continuing along that path.

"It's just being better in those key moments, more so the defensive moments that probably have cost us some goals this season so far."

One area Okon definitely wants an improvement is not conceding any more spot kicks.

"Two penalties in the first two games is probably not good enough, although they were soft penalties," Okon said.

'"We need to be a little more concentrated and a little bit more careful."
