Glory and Mariners hunt first A-League win

Oct 21, 2017 - 2:21 AM Two winless A-League teams lock horns at nib Stadium on Sunday as Perth Glory and Central Coast Mariners try to build some momentum.

Glory will play their first home match of the season after a 2-1 loss to Western Sydney Wanderers and 2-2 draw with Newcastle Jets on the road.

The Mariners, meanwhile, started in horror fashion with a 5-1 loss at home to the Jets before they bounced back with a morale-boosting 2-2 draw with the Wanderers.

Glory coach Kenny Lowe has been impressed with the attacking style Paul Oko's Central Coast have exhibited this season, with the return from injury of central defensive pairing Shane Lowry and Alex Grant timely.

Lowe is confident, though, of a good performance from his team in front of their home fans.

"The Mariners are playing a great style of football, which is easy on the eye, but obviously we have plenty of attacking threats ourselves. It should be a good game to watch," he said.

"I'm very happy with where we're at fitness wise and I'm confident that we can build on those positives that came out of the first two rounds in Sunday's game."

The game will see Daniel De Silva make his return to Perth to play against his former side.

He was just 15 when he debuted for Glory in 2013.

The Mariners playmaker was outstanding last week and scored a wonderful goal to cap off his performance.

The Mariners have won their past two games against Perth and 20 of 36 overall.

However, Okon knows Sunday will be a significant challenge for his improving side.

"We don't fear anyone and we know it's a tough challenge," Okon said.

"Perth are traditionally strong at home but we go there with confidence.

"We're playing good football, we're dangerous and we're scoring goals.

"They'll be full of confidence and they maybe see us as their first victory of the season and their first three points.

"It's a great challenge for us and we're looking forward to it."
