Unsworth interim coach at EPL's Everton
Oct 24, 2017 - 8:49 AM Everton under-23s manager David Unsworth has been placed in temporary charge of the first team after Dutchman Ronald Koeman's sacking. The former Toffees defender, who also stepped into the breach when Roberto Martinez was fired in May 2016, will oversee preparations for Wednesday's match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The 44-year-old Unsworth's reputation has grown over the past year after guiding the under-23s to last season's Premier League 2 title. He face the media at the club's Finch Farm training complex on Tuesday afternoon to preview the game.
"Everton Football Club can confirm that David Unsworth will take temporary charge of the Everton first team, commencing with tomorrow night's Carabao Cup tie at Stamford Bridge," said an Everton statement.
Everton sacked Koeman after they dropped into the relegation zone after a 5-2 home defeat to Arsenal.
Koeman took over 16 months ago and spent STG54 million ($A91 million) overhauling the squad in the last transfer window.
Everton, however, have won two out of nine league games in their worst start to a season since 2005-06.
Koeman arrived from Southampton in 2016 amid huge expectations. But the club have won two of 13 games this season in all competitions.
