Victory so much more to give: Muscat
Oct 29, 2017 - 4:32 PM Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat has said his winless A-League side are playing within themselves and have much more to offer.Victory's slow start to the season continued on Sunday when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Central Coast Mariners in Gosford.
They created most of the first-half chances but couldn't score.
Former Victory winger Connor Pain put the Mariners ahead but impressive import Leroy George levelled with a superb free-kick.
Victory held on for a point against a fast-finishing Mariners side which twice hit the post.
The perennial contenders find themselves down in eighth with just two points, but are only two behind sixth-placed Perth.
"The last two games have been away from home, we haven't got beat," Muscat said.
"However, the biggest disappointing thing for me is that I still think we're playing within ourselves.
"We've got so much more to offer and we'll keep persisting.
"It's not in my nature to give people the easy way out because of the amount of disruptions that we've had and that shouldn't stop you from doing the basics."
Victory are likely to lose Mark Milligan and James Troisi to the Socceroos and Kosta Barbarouses to New Zealand for World Cup play-off games next month.
Muscat stressed he wasn't worried about losing some of his international players and wouldn't be using that as an excuse if Victory's poor start continued.
"It's an opportunity, it's not a worry," Muscat said.
"Positives, people get an opportunity and if they take that opportunity they stay in the team."
Victory host Western Sydney Wanderers next Monday, on the eve of the Melbourne Cup.
They will still be without ace striker Besart Berisha, who will be serving the second week of a suspension for unsporting conduct.
