Simon, Heyman earn Matildas squad recalls

Nov 16, 2017 - 4:07 AM Experienced Matildas strikers Kyah Simon and Michelle Heyman have earned international call-ups ahead of next week's two-match series against China.

Coach Alen Stajcic has named a 21-player squad, with all bar two players - Caitlin Foord and Elise Kellond-Knight - playing in the W-League.

There are five changes all up from the squad that beat Brazil twice in September, with both wins coming in front of bumper crowds.

Simon, Heyman, fellow attacker Larissa Crummer, uncapped goalkeeper Eliza Campbell and defender Amy Harrison have been added to the mix.

Dropping out are Caitlin Cooper, Casey Dumont, Emily Gielnik, Georgia Yeoman-Dale and Gema Simon.

Stajcic said he was trying to build as much depth as possible in the national team ranks before next year's Women's Asian Cup in Jordan.

The two clashes against China - on Wednesday at AAMI Park, then on Saturday at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong - will be Australia's 10th and 11th matches of the year.

"I believe that throughout 2017 we have progressed significantly," Stajcic said.

"This camp will be important for players to put their hands up for selection for the Algarve Cup in Portugal next year, which will be our final competition before the Asian Cup.

"China PR are a very good team and will provide a tough test for us next week.

"Hopefully we can build on the fantastic support we received in New South Wales while in Victoria, while also progressing further as a team."
