LA Galaxy transfer Samuel Grandsir to Le Havre
Jan 25, 2023 - 4:13 PMThe LA Galaxy announced on Monday they have transferred attacker Samuel Grandsir to French Ligue 2 side Le Havre. It is unclear if a transfer fee was involved in the deal, but the Galaxy did announce they have retained a portion of the sell-on percentage should Grandsir be sold to another club.
“We want to thank Sam for his contributions to the club and we wish him and his family all the best as they return back to France,” said LA Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney in a team statement.
The 26-year-old Grandsir played two seasons for the Galaxy, making 73 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals and 13 assists. In 2022, Grandsir was a monster against LA’s crosstown rivals LAFC, scoring two goals and four assists in four games, but he wasn’t as efficient against all other opponents, scoring two goals and four assists in the other 35 games played.
The move is both a bit surprising and expected. After LA moved non-productive Designated Player Kevin Cabral, it appeared Grandsir’s general energy level and somewhat better production gave him an opportunity to better establish himself in 2023 at the Galaxy, but undisclosed “personal issues” were cited for why the Frenchman was not in training camp, and from there, it appeared his return to a French club was imminent. In that regard, it appears the Galaxy were doing right by Grandsir, and now, they have a TAM salary’s amount freed up and for the hard work that he put in on the field, he was not as productive, ultimately, as LA would have wished. With Grandsir and Cabral both off the squad, the club can — and probably must — make a couple signings in the primary window if they aim to contend in 2023. But, best wishes to Samuel in his career moving forward.
