Wimbledon 2022 Round 2 Bets: Odds, Overview, Matchups & Picks

Let’s take a look at our best bets ahead of Round 2 of Wimbledon 2022.

Bet $10, win $200 if any player records an ace at Wimbledon >>

The Pick: Serena Williams to Lose in Second Round

Williams’s longtime coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, announced in April that he would no longer be working with her after joining forces with the former world No 1 Simona Halep. Williams will instead be accompanied by Eric Hechtman, who normally coaches Venus.

If working with a new coach was not enough of an obstacle, Williams’ pre-tournament odds tumbled to +1800 after the draw was revealed. Williams was not given any favors having to navigate a quarter littered with No. 4 Paula Badosa, N0. 6 Karolina Pliskova, No. 11 Coco Gauff, and No. 16 Simona Halep. In addition, Williams’ already short preparation was cut even shorter as doubles partner Ons Jabeur was forced to retire from the Eastbourne International with a knee injury. Thus, with just two doubles matches under her belt to prepare for Wimbledon, it is much more likely that she loses to No. 32 seed Sara Sorribes Tormo or Christina McHale in the second round than it is that she makes a deep run.

The Pick: Djokovic to Win (-150 on FanDuel)

We are generally not in the business of laying such hefty pre-tournament odds on any player, but we cannot find a Men’s player in a weakened field that can beat Djokovic three out of five sets on grass. Djokovic has a straightforward path to the quarterfinals, where he could meet Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz defeated Djokovic earlier this year on clay in Madrid, but the young Spaniard is not a proven grass-court player. From there, Djokovic could meet Casper Ruud (who has not won a match at Wimbledon) in the semifinals or Hubert Hurkacz, and the young Pole has made just one semifinal appearance in a Grand Slam (albeit at Wimbledon) in his young career.

Djokovic’s most likely test will be either against Nadal or Berrettini in the finals. However, since Djokovic is 3-1 on grass against Nadal and 3-0 head-to-head overall against Berrettini, we would not expect him to be upset in the final.
