Wright, Jackson help Storm rally past Lynx, 73-71

Jul 17, 2010 - 10:41 PM MINNEAPOLIS(AP) -- Tanisha Wright's 3-pointer with 52.6 seconds remaining lifted the Seattle Storm to a 73-71 victory over the Minnesota Lynx on Saturday.

Lauren Jackson scored 14 of her 26 points in the fourth quarter to help Seattle (18-2) rally from a seven-point deficit and overcome a season-high 23 turnovers to win their ninth straight. Swin Cash had 12 points and 11 rebounds and Sue Bird added 10 points.

"We can't be satisfied with the way we played tonight," Jackson said. "We need to get better. We didn't panic, and that's a great thing."

Rebekkah Brunson scored 19 points, and Seimone Augustus and Lindsay Whalen added 13 each for the Lynx (7-12), who dropped into a tie for second place in the Western Conference - 10 1/2 games behind the Storm.

Minnesota had a chance to tie in the final seconds, but Augustus missed a hook shot on the final possession and Bird held on to the rebound. Augustus finished 4 for 17 from the field.

"We got Seimone off the screen there," Whalen said. "She got open and she got the shot. That's a shot she'll hit every other time, it just didn't go in tonight."

The Storm finished 8 for 23 on 3s and 15 for 15 from the free-throw line. The Lynx were just 3 for 9 from beyond the arc and 20 of 30 from the line.

Whalen scored six points during an 7-2 run that gave the Lynx an 59-52 lead after three quarters. Jackson scored 11 points during the Storm's 13-3 run to open the fourth, taking a 65-62 lead midway through the final period.

"We've got a resilient team, and they just find ways to do it," Storm coach Brian Agler said. "They don't get bothered by the score."

Brunson made two free throws to tie the score at 70-all with 2:40 left, and then added one more 90 seconds later to give the Lynx a one-point lead.

Wright then made her winning 3, and both teams missed their final shots in the final 17 seconds.

"We can rationalize it every which way, but we have to put the ball in the hole," Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve said after her team was outscored 21-12 in the final quarter. "We just missed our opportunities. It didn't work out for us down the stretch, and Tanisha Wright's 3 ball was big."

Seattle made six 3s in the first half, but had 13 turnovers and trailed 37-36 at halftime.
