Augustus, Lynx topple Sparks
Jul 27, 2011 - 2:37 AM Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Seimone Augustus led three players in double figures with 22 points as she helped guide the Minnesota Lynx to an 85-72 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks at Target Center.Augustus converted 10-of-17 shooting from the floor for the Lynx as they remained in first place in the Western Conference and continued their best start in franchise history. Also scoring in double figures for the hosts were Lindsay Whalen and Taj McWilliams-Franklin with 16 and 14 points, respectively.
The Sparks were paced by Kristi Toliver, who delivered a game-high 28 points as she made good on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range. Ebony Hoffman contributed another 24 points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds for the visitors.
Minnesota led by a score of 28-16 after one period of play and enjoyed a 43-30 edge at the half, thanks to 10 points by both Whalen and McWilliams-Franklin. The Sparks were paced by Hoffman and Toliver with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
The Lynx led by as many as 22 points in the second half despite shooting just 1-of-3 from three-point range.
Minnesota finished the night hitting a mere 1-of-6 out on the perimeter, but it was the defense that did the job for the squad as it forced LA into an unsightly 25 turnovers.
