McCoughtry, Atlanta hold off Connecticut
Jun 23, 2013 - 9:48 PM Uncasville, CT (Sports Network) - Despite a late run by the Connecticut Sun, the Atlanta Dream held on for a 78-77 win Sunday.Angel McCoughtry led the Dream with 34 points on 14-of-33 shooting. McCoughtry, who was the only Atlanta scorer in double figures, grabbed five rebounds and picked up three steals.
Atlanta won its third straight game and improved to 7-1 on the season.
Tina Charles led the Sun with 19 points and 12 rebounds. She knocked down nine of her 20 shots from the field.
Kelsey Griffin chipped in 16 and Kalana Greene added 14 for the Sun, which lost for the sixth time in seven games and fell to 2-6 on the season.
Atlanta led, 64-51, entering the fourth quarter, but Connecticut's 26-14 advantage in the fourth quarter made this a game.
Griffin gave Connecticut a one-point lead when she completed a three-point play with 58 seconds left.
McCoughtry responded with a layup seven seconds later to give Atlanta a 78-77 lead.
Allison Hightower missed a three-pointer at the buzzer for Connecticut.
