Mercury edge Mystics

Jun 28, 2013 - 1:38 AM Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Diana Taurasi poured in 26 points, DeWanna Bonner scored 19 in the second half and Candice Dupree added a double-double to help the Phoenix Mercury edge the Washington Mystics, 101-97, on Thursday.

Bonner sank eight of her 10 free throws in the last 23.6 seconds to keep the Mercury in front. She tallied 22 points in all, vaulting Phoenix to its third straight win and sixth in seven games.

Dupree totaled 16 points and 11 boards, while Brittney Griner and Charde Houston added 11 points apiece in the victory.

Crystal Langhorne connected on 12-for-13 from the field to score a game-high 27 points for Washington, which dropped a fourth straight game. Monique Currie and Matee Ajavon each scored 17 points in the setback.

The Mystics held a narrow 77-73 lead after Ajavon's 3-pointer ended the third quarter, but the Mercury jumped in front to grab a one-point lead 3 1/2 minutes into the fourth on a triple from Bonner.

Washington's Kia Vaughn broke an 89-89 tie with 1:28 left with a short jumper, but the Mercury went in front for good following a jumper and two free throws from Taurasi.

Ajavon hit a 3-pointer with 11.9 seconds left to pull the Mystics within 97-96, but Bonner iced the contest with free throws.
