Storm top Mercury; Griner hurt
Aug 7, 2013 - 4:46 AM Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Tanisha Wright and Tina Thompson each scored 19 points to power the Seattle Storm to an 80-65 win over the Phoenix Mercury Tuesday night at US Airways Center.Shekinna Stricklen tallied 13 points and Temeka Johnson scored 12 for Seattle, which moved to 3-0 this season against the Mercury. Thompson, who went 11- of-12 from the foul line, also had eight rebounds.
Candice Dupree scored 18 and DeWanna Bonner added 11 before leaving the game with a right knee sprain. Mercury center Brittney Griner had nine points and four blocks, but she injured her left ankle in the third quarter.
Griner landed awkwardly on her foot and left the game with 1:47 remaining in the quarter. X-rays were negative. She recently missed five consecutive games due to a sprained knee.
Dupree went 1-of-2 from the foul line to tie the game at 38 with 7:34 left in the third quarter, but the Storm scored 11 of the next 12 points. Seattle was up 61-47 going to the fourth and increased the advantage to as much as 23.
