Delle Donne leads Sky over Fever

May 17, 2014 - 3:16 AM Rosemont, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Elena Delle Donne scored 23 points and the Chicago Sky ended the game with a 7-0 run to beat the Indiana Fever, 74-71, on Friday night as both teams opened their regular season.

The Sky held the Fever scoreless over the last 1:47 of the game and Jessica Breland's free throws with 1:08 left put them in front for good, giving her 13 points for the contest.

First-round draft pick Natasha Howard had 16 points and 10 rebounds in her WNBA debut to lead the Fever, who were swept by Atlanta in the Eastern Conference finals last season after beating the top-seeded Sky in the first round.

Shavonte Zellous had 14 points in the loss and Marissa Coleman scored 13, but missed a 3-point attempts at the end.

Delle Donne, the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year, scored her 23 points on just 6-of-17 shooting. She had one point in the first quarter, when the Sky trailed by as many as 18.

Draft picks Jamierra Faulkner (seven points) and Markeisha Gatling (six) made strong debuts for Chicago.

Courtney Clements, who came over in the deal last week that sent veteran Swin Cash to Atlanta, played just 14 seconds for the Sky.
