Sky outshine Sun to remain unbeaten
May 21, 2014 - 7:08 PM Rosemont, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Elena Delle Donne scored 21 points and Courtney Vandersloot added 18 with seven assists to lead the Chicago Sky to a 78-68 victory over the Connecticut Sun in a Wednesday matinee at Allstate Arena.Jessica Breland contributed 14 points and a career-high 15 rebounds for the Sky, who remained unbeaten after three games and kept Connecticut winless in three tries this season. Chicago shot 51.7 percent to offset 18 turnovers.
Chiney Ogwumike, the first overall pick of the WNBA Draft, led Connecticut with 18 points, while Katie Douglas chipped in 14. Allison Hightower scored 12 in defeat.
The Sky scored the first four points and never trailed, although the Sun tied it at 6-6 before a three from Vandersloot put Chicago in front to stay. The Sky took a 24-18 lead after the first quarter and dominated the second to open a big cushion.
A three-point play by Delle Donne and a steal led to a Breland layup for a double-digit cushion in the first two minutes of the second, and the Sky outscored the Sun 21-8 during the stanza to carry a 45-26 margin to the intermission.
The Sun got as close as nine late in the third and trimmed the deficit to 68-62 with just under 4 1/2 minutes left, but the Sky answered with eight in a row to put it away.
