Taurasi, Mercury move past Shock
May 31, 2014 - 4:35 AM Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Diana Taurasi tallied 16 points to lead the Phoenix Mercury to a 100-78 victory over the Tulsa Shock on Friday at US Airways Center.Erin Phillips and Anete Jekabsone-Zogota poured in 15 points apiece, while Brittney Griner registered 14 points and five rebounds for the Mercury, who improved to 3-1 on the season.
Phoenix went 34-for-39 from the free-throw line and shot a scorching 66.7 percent (10-for-15) from beyond the arc in the triumph. Tulsa, meanwhile, made just 12 trips to the charity stripe and went 9-for-24 from long distance.
Riquna Williams supplied 27 points off the bench, while Skylar Diggins scored 20 for the Shock, who are off to their fourth straight 0-4 start.
Phoenix led by just three, 22-19, after the first quarter before opening the second on an 18-2 burst to build a double-digit lead.
The Shock got as close as nine late in the first half, but the Mercury carried a 47-36 lead into the break and led by double digits throughout the second half.
