Balanced attack leads Sparks past Liberty

Jul 12, 2014 - 1:51 AM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Nneka Ogwumike totaled 15 points and nine rebounds in the Los Angeles Sparks' 68-54 win over the New York Liberty on Friday.

Candace Parker and Jantel Lavender added 14 points apiece in the triumph, as Los Angeles relied on its defense to end its brief two-game skid. The Sparks held the Liberty to just 38.3 percent shooting from the floor.

LA led 56-50 after the third quarter but was never threatened in the fourth, as New York mustered just four points on 2-of-14 shooting. Tina Charles and Plenette Pierson had the only Liberty buckets in the final period. Anna Cruz missed both of her attempts and went 0-for-3 from the foul line.

Charles had 20 points and made 10 of New York's 23 field goals. The Liberty have dropped two in a row following a season-high three-game win streak.
