Mercury drop Mystics, run streak to 11
Jul 16, 2014 - 4:17 AM Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Candice Dupree led a balanced attack with 19 points to pace the Phoenix Mercury in a 90-78 win over the Washington Mystics on Tuesday.Diana Taurasi scored 18 points and Brittney Griner provided 16 points with eight rebounds in extending the Mercury's franchise record winning streak to 11.
Penny Taylor finished with 12 points and DeWanna Bonner added 11 points as all five Phoenix starters scored in double figures.
Monique Currie paced Washington, which also saw each starter score in double figures, with 19 points. Bria Hartley added 15 points in the setback.
The hosts raced out of the gate to a 32-17 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.
Phoenix led by 15 at the break and the Mystics cut it to 13 at the end of three quarters of play. Hartley followed a Tianna Hawkins bucket with a 3- pointer to cut the deficit to eight early in the fourth.
The Mercury answered with six straight points, with Griner's dunk capping the short run to push the lead back to 14 and Phoenix cruised down the stretch.
