Sparks slip past Fever

Jul 29, 2014 - 4:57 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Nneka Ogwumike scored 21 points and Alana Beard dropped a season-high 17, helping the Los Angeles Sparks to a 77-73 victory over the Indiana Fever.

Tamika Catchings' lefty layup with 2:17 to play put the Fever in front, 72-71, but Beard countered with a jumper on the other end. Briann January missed the next three Indiana shots, as an Ogwumike layup and two free throws secured LA's first win at home since June 24.

The Sparks had lost five straight games at Staples Center.

Jantel Lavender and Kristi Tolliver netted 13 and 10 points, respectively, for Los Angeles while Armintie Herrington pulled down a game-high 11 boards.

Catchings had 16 to pace Indiana, which fell to 1-2 on a season-long five-game road trip.

The back-and-forth contest featured eight ties and 16 lead changes.
