Fowles leads Sky to decisive victory
Jun 12, 2011 - 1:26 AM Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Sylvia Fowles poured in 23 points to lead the Chicago Sky to a comfortable 84-77 victory over the Washington Mystics at the Verizon Center.The Sky, which never trailed in the game, received 20 points from Epiphanny Prince and 19 points on 6-of-7 three-point shooting from Cathrine Kraayeveld. First round draft choice Courtney Vandersloot tallied seven points and handed out four assists.
The Mystics, playing without Alana Beard (sprained left foot), were paced by Matee Ajavon's 24 points. Kelly Miller contributed 15 points, while Crystal Langhorne and Marissa Coleman finished with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Chicago played strong from the opening tip, knocking down 64.3 percent of its shots, while limiting Washington to 30 percent shooting, during a dominant first quarter. The Sky held a 25-13 lead after the opening period.
The Sky finished eight games behind the first-place Mystics in the Eastern Conference in 2010, but led by as many as 18 in the definitive victory.
