Lynx rout Sparks to clinch 1st playoff spot
Aug 21, 2011 - 2:44 AM Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Seimone Augustus had 17 points to help the Minnesota Lynx clinch their first playoff spot since 2004, and the first in the WNBA this season, with an 87-68 win over the Los Angeles Sparks.Candice Wiggins had 13 points while Monica Wright added 11 for the Lynx, who have the best record in the league at 20-6. Rebekkah Brunson and Taj McWilliams-Franklinboth added nine points in the win.
Candace Parker had a game-high 18 points along with eight rebounds while Tina Thompson donated 11 points and five boards for the Sparks, who have lost two of three.
Los Angeles led by six points after the first quarter, but Minnesota dominated the second and took a 46-34 lead into halftime.
The third quarter saw Minnesota build its lead to 71-52 and the team cruised in the fourth.
