Sparks drop Storm in season opener
May 17, 2014 - 4:20 AM Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Candace Parker scored 18 points to lead the Los Angeles Sparks to an 80-69 win over the Seattle Storm in the season opener for both clubs.Alana Beard netted 17 points and Kristi Toliver added 13 points in the win.
Jenna O'Hea was the only Seattle player to register double-digit scoring with 12 points in the setback. Crystal Langhorne pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
Los Angeles scored 25 points off of 19 Seattle turnovers to take the first game of the young season.
The Sparks led 22-17 after one quarter of play and Beard and Parker interchanged buckets during a 9-0 second quarter-opening run.
LA brought a 43-32 advantage into the locker room at half and built a game- high 19-point lead in the third before cruising to the win in the fourth.
