Sky pull away for win over Sun
May 31, 2014 - 2:50 AM Rosemont, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Elena Delle Donne overcame a slow start to drop in 28 points and lead the Chicago Sky to a 101-82 rout of the Connecticut Sun Friday at Allstate Arena.Delle Donne managed just three points as the Sky held a narrow 26-23 edge after one quarter, but racked up 16 in the second half to help Chicago slowly put the game out of reach.
Jessica Breland compiled 18 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and five blocks for the Eastern Conference-leading Sky, now 5-1 on the young season. Allie Quigley added 15 points off the bench.
Courtney Vandersloot set a Chicago single-game record with 13 assists in the victory.
The Sky went ahead for good on a 7-0 second-quarter run that snapped a 29-29 tie and later opened up a 51-41 halftime lead. Connecticut never got within single digits the rest of the way, with the margin growing as high as 24 points late in the contest.
Kelsey Bone paced the Sun with 20 points and Chiney Ogwumike had 11 points and 10 rebounds in the loss, which dropped Connecticut to 1-5.
