McCoughtry guides Dream past Lynx

Jun 14, 2014 - 2:05 AM Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Angel McCoughtry had 23 points, six rebounds and five assists and the Atlanta Dream held off the Minnesota Lynx, 85-82, from Philips Arena on Friday.

All five Dream starters scored in double figures in the rematch from last year's WNBA Finals, won in a sweep by the Lynx. Erika de Souza contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds and Sancho Lyttle tallied 10 points and 12 boards. Tiffany Hayes and Jasmine Thomas scored 15 and 13 points, respectively, helping Atlanta to its third straight win.

Lindsay Whalen led Minnesota in a losing effort with 22 points, while Janel McCarville added 18 before fouling out. Star Maya Moore was limited to 10 points on 2-of-11 from the field.

Atlanta led big early on, jumping out to a 50-33 halftime advantage after shooting a scorching 19-for-36 from the floor and 5-of-9 from behind the arc. Moore was held without a basket in more than 14 first half minutes, scoring on just a pair of free throws.

Back-to-back Whalen jumpers early in the third pulled Minnesota to within nine, but McCoughtry countered with consecutive 3-pointers to restore a 15- point edge.

A late push put a scare into the Dream, with two Moore free throws making it a two-point game with less than two minutes remaining. The Lynx had three opportunities to tie or take a lead after that, but came up empty.
