Sun hold off Liberty
Jun 14, 2014 - 2:36 AM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Alex Bentley scored 24 points as the Connecticut Sun held off a New York rally to beat the Liberty 83-75 on Friday.Chiney Ogwumike added 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Katie Douglas chipped in with 14 points and five assists for the Sun, who have won three straight games.
Tina Charles tallied a game-high 25 points and 10 rebounds while Cappie Pondexter added 20 points for the Liberty, who have just one win in their last six contests.
The Sun dominated the first half and took a 46-26 lead into the break.
Connecticut had a 59-41 advantage with 3:49 left in the third before New York closed the quarter on an 11-2 run. The Liberty came within two points several times in the fourth but just couldn't pull ahead.
Charles sank two free throws with 4:34 to play to make it 70-68 but Douglas nailed a 3-pointer less than 30 seconds later to put the Sun up six and they never looked back.
