Phoenix tops Los Angeles to win seventh straight
Jul 6, 2014 - 10:17 PM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Diana Taurasi poured in a season-high 32 points to guide the Phoenix Mercury to a 94-89 win over the Los Angeles Sparks at Staples Center on Sunday.Taurasi hit 7-of-10 from behind the arc, including a dagger with 8.7 seconds left on the clock that gave Phoenix a four-point lead. Penny Taylor scored 17 points while Candice Dupree and Brittney Griner had 15 apiece in the seventh straight Mercury win.
Candace Parker stuffed the stat sheet in defeat, totaling 27 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Kristi Tolliver scored 26.
Phoenix led by as many as 14 and owned a 73-64 lead after three quarters, but a furious LA rally had the Sparks in front by five with 6:30 to play. Parker and Tolliver each hit a pair of triples during the 16-2 Los Angeles flurry.
LA led by two with 2:35 left after another Tolliver 3-ball, but Taylor canned one at the other end with just over a minute to play and Taurasi hit a stepback 3 to secure the win.
