Mercury crush Sparks, extend streak to 16
Jul 30, 2014 - 4:28 AM Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Diana Taurasi led five Mercury players in double figures and Phoenix continued its quest to a league record 18 straight victories with a 90-69 drubbing of the Los Angeles Sparks.The Mercury moved two wins shy of matching the mark the Sparks set in 2001 by making 51.4 percent of their shots.
Taurasi scored 17 points, Candice Dupree added 16 with nine rebounds and Brittney Griner and DeWanna Bonner chipped in with 14 and 12 points, respectively, in the rout.
Nneka Ogwumike led the Sparks with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Kristi Toliver donated 14 points and seven assists in a losing effort.
The Mercury extended their three-point halftime lead by outscoring the Sparks, 24-12, in the third quarter. They led by as many as 23 in the fourth.
