Sun hold on to beat Stars
Aug 2, 2014 - 3:22 AM San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Chiney Ogwumike scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Connecticut Sun defeated the San Antonio Stars, 89-79.Alyssa Thomas scored 18 points and Alex Bentley tallied 18 points and five assists for the Sun, who snapped a four-game losing streak. Renee Montgomery added 11 points off the bench.
Kayla McBride scored a game-high 27 points in the Stars' third loss in their last four games.
San Antonio took a 10-8 lead with just three and a half minutes left in the first, but Connecticut responded with a 14-2 run to end the quarter.
The Sun entered the half up 43-30 and a running jump shot by Ogwumike with 3:34 left in the third put them up by 20 points, their largest lead of the night.
San Antonio worked its way back into the contest, however. McBride converted a three-point play to bring the Stars within five with less than two minutes to go in the game, but Thomas answered with a jumper and Bentley converted four straight free throws as Connecticut held off the comeback attempt to get the win.
