Vaughn leads Mystics past Fever

Aug 9, 2014 - 1:45 AM Indianapolis, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Kia Vaughn scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to help the Washington Mystics beat the Indiana Fever 74-61.

Ivory Latta and Bria Hartley netted 14 and 13 points, respectively, for the Mystics, who picked up their sixth victory in their last eight games.

Shavonte Zellous led Indiana with 13 points, as the Fever lost for the seventh time in their last 10 contests. Tamika Catchings and Erlana Larkins both added 11 points, while Larkins also pulled in eight rebounds.

Larkins now has 280 boards on the year, breaking Indiana's previous record of 276 rebounds in a season set by Catchings in 2002.

The game stayed close through the first quarter, with the Mystics going into the second ahead 15-13. The game was tied at 29-29 with 2:16 to go in the first half, but the Mystics went on an 8-0 run, putting them ahead 37-29 at the break.

Washington picked up right where it left off, scoring the first four points of the third quarter and outscoring Indiana 11-4 through the first three minutes of the third. The Mystics outscored the Fever 26-14 in the third to take a 20- point lead into the fourth.

After Vaughn hit a layup to put Washington up 71-45 with 5:38 left for its biggest lead of the game, Larkins started a 16-3 run for Indiana that brought the Fever within 13 at the final buzzer.
