    Cougars rout Seattle 85-54 to open season, Kyle Smith era

    Washington State men's basketball opened its season with a commanding 85-54 win over Seattle University Thursday night, the first game under new head coach Kyle Smith. Guard CJ Elleby led the Cougars with 27 points and seven rebounds in 28 minutes of action, while Terrell Brown led the Redhawks with 24 points, 10 rebounds and two assists in 36 minutes. Washington State shot 41.3% (33-80) from the field on the game and Seattle shot 36.4% (20-55). The Cougs' 31-point margin of victory is the largest for a new WSU head coach since 1928.
