    What are Team Futures?

Futures refers to any team-based wager for a future event or a result. These bets often do not pay out until weeks or even months from when they are originally placed. Bets for Win Totals and the Super Bowl winner are good examples of team futures bets.

These are great odds for a team owning a stellar defense, and led by one of the NFL’s greatest coaches. But it’s not happening.

Pittsburgh will likely trot out one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL. And while Ben Roethlisberger was certainly limited in his waning years, his successor at QB will surely have more difficulties navigating behind such a poor unit.

Save your money, as the Steelers are destined to take a step back in their first season without franchise icon Ben Roethlisberger.

Pending unprecedented QB play from rookie Kenny Pickett, or an unfathomable career 180° by Mitch Trubisky, the Steelers are a longshot bet without much of a chance.

The Steelers were thoroughly outplayed by the Bengals a season ago.

Contests between Pittsburgh and Baltimore are always competitive, yet the disparity in QB play between these two teams is suddenly larger than ever.

Cleveland, their proverbial ‘little brother’ within the division, has now surpassed the Steelers in almost every aspect. And further, if QB Deshaun Watson’s suspension settles in the neighborhood of four to six games, Pittsburgh’s odds to win the division may even lengthen.

Pass on betting the Steelers to win the AFC North.

The Steelers have never had a losing season under HC Mike Tomlin. Who cares?

“Stats” like these do not matter, and too often are interpreted as actionable information. In no instance would this fact on Tomlin’s Steelers have any influence on the outcome of a game.

Pittsburgh is being rightfully valued as the worst team in their division, and they currently hold the fourth-lowest win total projection of any team in the AFC. In contrast to these other teams, Pittsburgh will compete in a potentially brutal division. Furthermore, and when omitting two contests versus Cleveland, the Steelers are currently favored in only three of their 15 contests.

Unless their AFC North adversaries greatly underperform, it is hard to even project a ceiling above seven wins for Pittsburgh in 2022.

Take the under 7.5 wins (-105).

Betting against the Steelers to make the playoffs is too expensive for my taste, and betting on them to do so is too unlikely.

Pass altogether on Pittsburgh’s playoff futures.

It doesn’t matter that Tomlin has never posted a losing season. A weak offensive line paired with questionable quarterback play will be detrimental to their chances in such a stacked AFC.

Essentially, this is a really great price to bet that the Steelers are just the worst team in their division.
