Hawks star Franklin defends bar outburst
May 23, 2013 - 2:19 AM Hawthorn have closed the book on their investigation into a confrontation between star AFL forward Lance Franklin and a woman at a Melbourne bar.Former fashion designer Nicky Rowsell called Franklin an "absolute disgrace of a human being" after a confrontation on Saturday night.
She said that Franklin stood over her and yelled in her face.
Franklin apologised to Rowsell on Thursday but said he was verbally attacked.
He used Twitter to defend himself and said there were two sides to the story.
"Maybe the @Heraldsun should ask Nicky and publish why she approached me and what she said," he wrote.
"I am not for one minute saying how I reacted was right but when someone comes up and verbally attacks me and the people I care about for no apparent reason I think it's only natural to defend yourself.
"But I guess that's not an appealing story is it."
Hawthorn issued a statement on Thursday saying the club had spoken to both parties and no further action would be taken.
"The conversation escalated following a comment made by the woman that Franklin took particular offence to," the club said.
Hawks chief executive Stuart Fox said he was disappointed the incident had occurred but the club was satisfied with how Franklin had dealt with it.
"As both parties have approached the matter in a professional and mature way following open discussions on Monday, the issue was mutually resolved in private," Fox said.
