No doubt on Greenwood: Adelaide Crows
Sep 28, 2017 - 4:51 AM Adelaide insist midfielder Hugh Greenwood will play in Saturday's AFL grand final against Richmond despite speculation he's carrying a calf injury. The former US college basketballer played little more than half of Adelaide's preliminary final but has been cleared for the premiership decider.
"He got through training so we expect him to play. He's fine," Crows assistant coach Scott Camporeale told reporters on Thursday at Adelaide Airport.
Camporeale said the Crows would field a settled side after injured forward Mitch McGovern (hamstring) was ruled out of returning on Wednesday.
"We have got a body of evidence that the team we have played the last month ... is the right mix for us," Camporeale said.
The Crows fly to Melbourne as favourites to claim their first premiership since 1998, and Camporeale described their preparation as faultless.
"It has been really good. We have had two really tough finals but we have had the ability to get away and refresh as well," he said.
"Even to play on the Friday night (preliminary final), that gives us an extra day of rest and recuperation.
"And the training has been to a pretty good standard this week.
"To be quite honest, it has been a normal week for us ... the way that we train and the way that we do our meetings and everything is all the same.
"Essentially when the ball bounces it will be a game of footy so we have just got make sure that we get them into the right headspace once that ball is bounced."
The injured McGovern was among Adelaide's travel party despite failing to recover from a hamstring strain which sidelined him for the preliminary final.
"It's one of those hard luck stories that always happens this time of year unfortunately," Camporeale said.
"We love Mitch and the playing group love having him there. He has obviously played an integral role for us to get there."
McGovern's absence presents a premiership opportunity to his replacement.
Utility Andy Otten returned to AFL ranks this season after recovering from two serious knee injuries.
"Timing is everything, isn't it," Camporeale said.
"It's a great story, Otto. Two knee reconstructions and probably he never thought that he would get an opportunity to be here.
"But what he has done from pre-season day one, is to come back and really force our hand to pick him.
"And he has given us flexibility at both ends of the ground which important this time of year."
