Sidebottom finally steals Magpies top gong
Oct 6, 2017 - 4:35 PM After nine seasons and two grand final appearances Steele Sidebottom has won his first EW Copeland Trophy as Collingwood's player of the season.The 26-year-old midfielder had been in the top five in each of the past five seasons but nabbed 140 votes to finally take top spot.
He edged out midfield partner Taylor Adams by one vote while Adam Treloar (112), Jeremy Howe (111) and Brodie Grundy (91) were well adrift rounding out the top five.
Scott Pendlebury, winner of the award in each of the past four seasons, also finished with 91 despite missing the last six games of the season due to injury.
Tyson Goldsack won the best clubman award and Callum Brown the best first-year player.
Jamie Elliott's haul of 34 landed him the Gordon Coventry Award as leading goalkicker.
