Bombers lock in star McGrath until 2020
Nov 30, 2017 - 4:55 AM AFL Rising Star award winner Andrew McGrath will be at Essendon until at least the end of 2020 after signing a two-year contract extension. The 19-year-old, who was the No.1 draft pick in 2016, played 21 games in his debut season and collected a swag of awards.
Bombers coach John Worsfold says he expects McGrath to have an even bigger impact next season and he could spend more time in the midfield.
"His performances in defence last season made him an integral part of our side, and with continued development over coming seasons he is on his way to becoming a handy inclusion to our midfield group," Worsfold said.
McGrath says he's excited about what the future holds with Essendon.
"I believe we are building something really special here," he said.
"We have a lot of young talent and experience on our list."
