Garcia dominates Judah in title bout

Apr 28, 2013 - 3:37 AM Brooklyn, NY (Sports Network) - Danny Garcia retained his WBA and WBC super lightweight titles by scoring a 12-round unanimous decision over Brooklyn's Zab Judah Saturday night.

The 25-year-old Garcia (26-0, 16 KOs), a native of Philadelphia, won by scores of 116-111, 115-112 and 114-112.

Judah (42-8, 29 KOs), 10 years older than his opponent, was behind early after being forced in the corner in the fifth and sixth rounds. In the eighth, Garcia landed a left and then a solid right to the cheek that sent Judah to the canvas on his rear end.

Blood was visible from a cut near Judah's left cheek. It marked the 10th time he was knocked down in his career and it came midway through the round.

Judah went on the offensive in the 10th and 11th rounds. In the 10th, Judah landed a left to the jaw that seemed to hurt Garcia. Garcia suffered a cut to his forehead from an accidental headbutt, but was well ahead on all scorecards going into the final round.

Immediately at the end of the fight, the fighters gave each other congratulatory hugs.

On the undercard, Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin defended his WBO middleweight title with a seventh-round technical knockout of Fernando Guerrero.

Quillin (29-0, 21 KOs) scored a pair of knockdowns in the second round, both via right hands. Guerrero (25-2, 19 KOs) was wobbly and almost went down two more times in the round.

A right uppercut weakened Guerrero in the seventh and he went down again. After getting up, Quillin finished off Guerrero with a right to the top of the head. The bout was stopped midway through the round.
