Duddy wins unanimous decision over Howe

Jun 29, 2008 - 5:39 AM BOSTON (Ticker) -- Undefeated middleweight contender John Duddy made a statement by recording a punishing 10-round unanimous decision over Charles Howe on Saturday night.

Duddy (25-0, 17 KOs) won all three cards with identical scores of 100-90 in his first fight with new trainer Pat Burns.

"I made a point that I don't have to be brave all of the time," Duddy said. "Just because I can take a punch doesn't mean I have to. I had trouble convincing myself. I proved that I can move my head a lot more. I caught him with some beautiful shots and I thought that he was ready to go, but Charlie has a great chin.

"I have big plans and I'm still undefeated. I used my jab a lot tonight. I'm hoping to get a shot at a world title."

After being unbeaten for nearly eight years, Howe (17-5-2, 9 KOs) has lost his last two fights.
