Naito defeats Yamaguchi in Tokyo

Dec 23, 2008 - 3:53 PM TOKYO (Ticker) - Daisuke Naito retained his WBC flyweight title on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old registered an 11th-round technical knockout against Japanese countryman Shingo Yamaguchi, who was floored with a roundhouse right just prior to the stoppage at 1:11.

It marked the fourth successful title defense for Naito, who improved to 34-2-3 (22 KOs) and extended his own record as the oldest Japanese fighter to own a world title.

There already is speculation that Naito's next opponent will be former WBA light flyweight champion Koki Kameda, who is perhaps best known due to his history of poor sportsmanship.

Yamaguchi, who was making his third attempt at a title, fell to 23-6-2.
