Pair of Stampeders highlight October's best
Nov 6, 2012 - 6:32 PM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish and kicker Rene Paredes highlighted the list of four players named the top CFL performers for the month of October.Cornish earned top Canadian player honors by totaling 330 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 74 carries, along with 155 yards and another score on 11 receptions over five games last month. He set a new single-season record for non-imports with 1,457 rushing yards, breaking the long-held mark by Normie Kwong, who gained 1,437 in 1956.
Paredes took home special teams mention after connecting on all 14 of his field-goal tries and all 14 extra-point attempts for a total of 56 points.
Best offensive player went to Edmonton Eskimos back Fred Stamps. He picked up 585 yards -- including a 204-yard contest against Hamilton on Oct. 5 -- and five touchdowns on 24 receptions.
British Columbia linebacker Adam Bighill earned top defensive honors, compiling 27 tackles, five sacks and one interception to help the Lions take first place in the West Division.
