Eskimos name Ed Hervey GM

Dec 11, 2012 - 3:16 AM Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - The Edmonton Eskimos named Ed Hervey as their new general manager on Monday.

A two-time Grey Cup champion with the Eskimos, Hervey had been the team's head scout for four years.

Hervey replaces Eric Tillman who was fired a week before the Eskimos lost to the Toronto Argonauts in the East Division semifinal.

"Ed is the right man to build us a world-class team -- on the field and in the community," president and CEO Len Rhodes said. "He embodies the Eskimo Way and will give our community a consistently-competitive team for years to come."

In his eight seasons as a wide receiver, Hervey caught 476 passes for 6,715 yards and 43 touchdowns. He played in eight playoff games and three Grey Cup championships.

"My plan is simple and effective; do not reinvent the wheel but reinforce the fact that teamwork on and off the field wins championships," Hervey said in a statement.

"The acquisition of the most talented players, coaches and staff will allow the Edmonton Eskimos to return to its proper place amongst the CFL elite.

"The Football Department needs a strong leader who can and will make the tough decisions, will always have the best interests of the Edmonton Eskimos first and foremost, has a passion and commitment for the Edmonton community and will give our fans the one thing they genuinely want and deserve ... HOPE."
