Als acquire RB Messam from Eskimos
Feb 5, 2013 - 8:56 PM Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - The Montreal Alouettes acquired non-import running back Jerome Messam from the Edmonton Eskimos in exchange for a sixth- round pick in the 2013 CFL draft."We are pleased to have Jerome join our team. We look forward to helping Jerome regain his form from his MOP season in 2011," explained Alouettes general manager Jim Popp. "Jerome should add another dimension to our ever- changing offense. It will be fun to watch our new offensive coaches implement these newly-acquired offensive players with our current group of outstanding players."
Messam racked up 1,057 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 195 carries two years ago for Edmonton, en route to being named the league's Most Outstanding Canadian player.
After signing with the Miami Dolphins and then being released following the preseason, Messam came back to the Esks and gained 168 yards and one score, adding eight receptions for 76 yards in nine appearances.
"We thank Jerome for what he brought to the team. This is a wonderful opportunity for him to continue on a successful path," said Eskimos head coach Kavis Reed.
