Hockey player dies from head injury
Jan 2, 2009 - 7:26 PM HAMILTON, Ontario (Ticker) - Don Sanderson, a defenseman with the Whitby Dunlops of the Ontario Hockey Association, died on Friday, three weeks after hitting his head on the ice during a fight. He was 21.Sanderson suffered head trauma while fighting with Brantford's Corey Fulton during a game December 12.
His helmet came off during the altercation and when the players fell over, Sanderson's unprotected head hit the ice, knocking him out.
Sanderson regained consciousness after a few moments, but eventually fell into a coma and was on life support at Hamilton General Hospital until his death at approximately 1:15 a.m. Friday.
